New Shoes

As another decade comes to an end it’s time to change my shoes.  Just realized that for all this time, I’ve been wearing my safety shoes. The ones with the extra safe, no slip, grip on the bottom. Don’t get me wrong, these are wonderful shoes and they’ve been good to me. In these shoes I have learned some things, done some things and changed some things. I have met some people, birthed some people, found some people, and lost some people. All in the comfort of my trusty safety shoes! They have never let me down. They have held me up when my legs gave out. They have helped me run, when I wanted to walk. They have carried me when I had not the strength to take another step…..my good ole safety shoes.
But lately my safety shoes have not been fitting so well. Some days they are way too tight. So tight, the pain is unbearable. Then others days, they seem to be so loose I’m afraid they will fall right off my feet in mid stride!
So I got to thinking about what to do with these safety shoes and the only good answer seems to be that I need a new pair of shoes! See as the new decade approaches, I think I need a shoe that’s a little more daring, not so safe. Maybe a bold, bright color that dares to make a statement as loud as a stark white stiletto on Valentine’s Day! Yet sensible enough to be understated when paired with the right outfit. And on top of all that it’s got to be comfortable, not too small, yet not too big.
Now with all these requirements, finding these new shoes will not be easy and will definitely take some time. The search will have its ups and downs, good days and bad. But boy, when I find those shoes- WHOA!

Work Shoes

So it's the time of the year that we begin to get very reflective. We start to think about where we are and where we want to be. And in those thoughts, regret seeps in. You think back to all the promises you made to yourself at the beginning for the year. All the things that you claimed you would do this year, all the things you said you would do new, better, differently or greater this year! And 8 days before the passing of another year, you still have not reached the goal. Still haven't lost those 20lbs. Still haven't committed to that 3-4 day a week workout schedule, still haven't put away X amount of dollars into savings this year. Still haven't read the bible from cover to cover. You still have not done ANY of those things that you vowed, with full energy and commitment to accomplish in 2010! WHY?

What is it about a new year that turns us into liars? What is it in the wonder of a new year that gives you such hope that you will be different? I find my own problem lies in the fact that although the year is new, I still take the same old me into that new year with me. The same procrastinator, the same doubter, the same pessimist. However, for a few short months, weeks, days, hours or minutes that my optimism lasts I am fully committed and I really want to be different and change.

So now, with 2011 around the corner, how do I change the person that goes into the new year so that I can change the behavior? Sounds like it's time to put on my work boots. You know the ones that you wear only when you have to go out in bad weather, work in the yard, clean the basement- the ones that you would not be caught dead in under normal circumstances. Think of them as equipment, necessary to get the job done. And because being seen in these old things goes against all the laws of good taste and fashion, the objective it to get them off your feet ASAP.

STEP 1- BE HONEST

Now that you have on your work boots, let get to work. Before you set out to do the usual, write down goals or a to do list for the new year be honest with yourself. What can you really do? What will you really do? What do you really want to do?

Think about it!

More steps to come....

The Color of the Day- PURPLE

It's seems to be one of the hottest colors of the season- Purple! Everywhere you look these days you see something fantastic in some delicious shade of purple. Be it deep, magenta, lilac or just the plain old crayola box purple, it's everywhere.

So naturally, I began a search for the perfect pair of purple shoes. And boy- did I find them! Picture this,  4 inches of the softest suede you would ever want to lay your hands on. But not just suede, they are inter-woven across the top of the foot with varying shades of purple leather spliced in for excitement! This is not just any peep toe pump, they somehow seem to speak volumes about the person who wears them as they so regally decorate the feet.

But what is it about the color purple? It typically signifies all things wealthy and royal. All things of high quality and prestige. We've read the stories in the old testament of the robes and garments of purple and scarlet (we'll talk about scarlet on another day...). even Jesus was adorned in a purple robe.

So I'm feeling alittle purple today. As it gets closer to the day that we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, I'm feeling regal and wealthy, of high quality and prestige! Why? Hum it could easily be different as I struggle through bronchitis and a horrible case of laryngitis. But then I think about the thing that crossed my mind when I opened my eyes this morning... THANK YOU JESUS. Thank you for your life, your sacrifice and all of the wonderful things I get to enjoy because of a relationship with you.

These are my reasons, probably not the same as yours. But the next time you put on a great pair of purple shoes, or grab your purple bag, put on your lilac scarf or sweater- remember that you are wearing the color of royalty and wealth. Embrace the feeling and own the significance. Go forth in your day with a sense of being set apart, of high quality with great prestige.....

Welcome!

Welcome world to SHOETALK!

I'm like most women, I LOVE SHOES! There is nothing better than a fantastic pair of shoes. Stilettos, flats, platforms, wedges, whatever, they are all fabulous. And nothing makes you feel better or a hum-drum outfit look better than a ridiculously, serious pair of shoes.

But isn't it more than just the look? I don't know about you, but a good pair changes my mood they make me stand up straighter, feel more confident and I somehow feel prettier! Sounds alittle silly when I look at in print, but true none the less.

They say that you should do what you love so that's what I plan to do. I love shoes and contrary to what I have always told myself, I love people too. So come along with me as I go on the journey to use my objective love to fuel my heart's love!

Next up...Shoemanity Soles, stay tuned.
